About Us

We are a leading food and agri-business, supplying a broad portfolio of products to over 7,200 customers who range from multi-national, world famous brands to small family run businesses.

Each one depends on us to provide goods and services that are safe, on-time and consistently in line with the required specification. Our customers also rely on us to help them innovate and create new opportunities. Established in 1989, our team of 14,300 full-time, seasonal, and contract employees have built leadership positions in many of our businesses such as Cocoa, Coffee, Cotton, Edible Nuts and Spices.

As well as growing crops in our own orchards and plantations, and sourcing from around 1.4 million farmers globally, our 7 innovation centres develop ingredients and find solutions for our customers. We also provide support services including risk management solutions and agri-logistics. In Africa only, through our Packaged Foods Business, we market our own brands directly to consumers.

How We Work

We are farmers

In orchards, plantations and farms, we grow an array of crops, such as almonds, coffee and rubber, so we have an acute understanding of the pressures facing farmers.

Our scale and insight means we share learnings from one crop to another, driving efficiencies for Onat Global and customers. Coupled with investments in processing, we have clear line of sight across these supply chains. We are also firm believers in the ability of large-scale and small-scale farmers to work hand in hand, increasing volumes and stimulating opportunity around our operations through smallholder ‘outgrower’ programmes.

Our integrated operations provide greater control over traceability, quality and sustainability.

We are suppliers

We connect customers to farmers.

Our sourcing and buying network extends to around 1.4 million farmers, either directly or through intermediaries. While we source from over 3,200 large-scale farmers, the vast majority are smallholders in emerging markets so our teams are based on the ground, all year round, in as many production areas as possible. This means we can help to improve yields, quality and environmental practices. Our digital team is also helping us to overcome physical limitations and reach farmers directly with advice and payments, even in the remotest of regions with limited infrastructure.

We collaborate with farmers, customers, NGOs, government agencies, foundations and financiers to scale social and environmental programmes.

We are processors

With over 80 processing and manufacturing facilities across the world, we transform raw materials into bespoke ingredients, textiles, manufacturing blocks and even furniture.

Safety, quality, efficiency and environment are cornerstones throughout the process. We have invested in facilities both close to production and close to customer markets, facilitating trade, creating employment and reducing our carbon footprint.

Our processing and innovation centres create ingredient formats, blends and recipes to satisfy multiple consumer demands, from taste and aroma, to clean label and convenience.

We are experts

Our teams include agronomists, analysts, coffee cuppers, ginners, quality assurers, traders and many more besides.

We pride ourselves on finding solutions that work for everyone involved. But as there’s always room for improvement, our experts strive to innovate throughout the supply chain.

We are re-imagineers

Our Purpose is to re-imagine global agriculture and food systems.

Agriculture faces huge environmental and social challenges. Our plantation and processing experience, coupled with our year-round presence working with farmers in remote regions, means that we are in a strong position to re-imagine global agriculture for the better. Our vision is to create Living Landscapes where prosperous farmers and thriving communities live in harmony with healthy eco-systems.

Research and development

Through research and development, we create better quality, great tasting and more reliable products through innovation in yield optimisation, flavours and disease resistance, which meets our customers' needs improves the livelihoods of our farmers.

Onion

Our innovative onion breeding programme has succeeded in producing higher solid content with lower water consumption without compromising on taste. Learnings are being used to help improve yields, boost disease resistance and reduce acreage in other products.
